To inspire, provide health, BA and wellness. Also to promote affordable care
To make medical and Behavioral health care assessable to all people.
A Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is trained to care for patients with mental health issues across the lifespan. PMHNPs are qualified in assessment, diagnosis, planning, and evaluation, often providing many of the same services as medical doctors.
To become a Nurse Practitioner, an undergraduate degree in nursing is required, followed by successful completion of the state board exam to become a Registered Nurse (RN). After becoming an RN, a Master's Degree (MSN) or Doctoral Degree (DNP) is obtained to become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
A PMHNP can work in inpatient, outpatient, emergency, or community-based settings to provide psychiatric care. In Arizona, a PMHNP is authorized to assess, diagnose, and prescribe medication for mental health conditions. PMHNPs treat a wide variety of mental health conditions, including anxiety, panic attacks, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, substance use disorders, PTSD, schizophrenia, and other mental health disorders. A PMHNP will work closely with you to develop an individualized treatment plan that meets your specific needs.
